Sandman vs. Clayface – Marvel vs. DC #12

Welcome! My name is Olaf Lesniak and this is Marvel vs DC! The series that will come out weekly on Saturdays and will pit two famous characters against each other. I will look at both opponents’ skills, powers, abilities, stamina and etc. to help me determine the winner. Today our battle is….

Sandman vs. Clayface

First we will look at the origins and the basics of each characters. We will follow that by Sandman and Clayface’s powers and abilities which would then lead them into battle.

Origins: Sandman

After his escape from prison, criminal Flint Marko was exposed to sand which was irradiated by nuclear testing. The criminal would later discover his powers and used them for the life of crime as the evil Sandman.

Basil Karlo was an actor who later went out on a killing streak after he found out his classic movie he starred in was being remade. He started killing every person that was involved in the production of the movie in a mask of the villain of the film, Clayface until he got stopped by Batman and Robin. At first, Karlo had no powers but, as time went on Karlo would steal them from the other ‘Clayfaces’ and gained the ability to be anyone.

Battle!

Both Sandman and Clayface are the hardest to beat villains that would take a lot of thought to beat when versing their usual opponents, but this time they are not fighting Spider-Man nor Batman. This time they are fighting someone alike meaning this will be easier or harder for the other to beat. I believe this will be a very quick fight and here is why, but know that before we start the clash, this battle will not take place by any sandpit, beach nor a place with a lot of clay to make this fight fair and square. Now let’s begin!

Sandman vs. Clayface

Sandman was able to fight characters as strong as Hulk and the Thing so his strength is on a much higher level than Clayface’s although he did stand strong against Supergirl. Both characters can form mallets, hammers or any weapons they desire with their limbs. Now a unique power Clayface has is his shape-shifting! Basil Karlo can manipulate his looks on a DNA level, while Flint Marko can’t shape shift into a different person as he can only remain looking as he did before his accident. Well the shape shifting ability into a different person wouldn’t really be that useful against Sandman in a fight anyway.

Sandman has the ability to multiply himself into other parts and those parts remain to have all the same characteristics of the original including his power levels. But to build an army of Sandmen, Flint would have to get more sand which he won’t have in this fight other than himself so he could probably clone himself up to 3-4 versions. Now it would be a group of Sandmen against one Clayface.

Multiple Sandmen Ability

Sandman does have some weaknesses like heat and if heated too much he would turn into glass making him incapable to move. It is interesting to know that Clayface has the ability to melt objects but, it wouldn’t help him much since he would somehow need to go up to 3,400 Fahrenheit in order to actually turn Flint Marko into glass.

Clayface fights Supergirl

Another weakness Sandman has is water and mud. Sandman cannot control his body when wet and Clayface happens to be made up of the thing Flint isn’t capable of controlling when wet. Coming into contact with Clayface would alone end Sandman’s control over his body because of the mud that Clayface is made up of. Many think this would be an interesting battle but in reality Basil Karlo can win this pretty easily with little effort.

WINNER: Clayface
